What sets us apart?

We are unique in combining the essential knowledge of practical, physical conservation works with the full suite of professional services.

We love old buildings - and the crafts used to construct them. We love learning the crafts and carrying them out, and this is what makes us different.

Why is this important? To instruct another professional, you must fully understand the task at hand.
Very few Chartered Building Surveyors have the practical skills to match their professional ones: this allows us to not only understand better, to explain more fully and to ensure your work is done 100% correctly.
We are also able to demonstrate and train: whether you are a contractor seeking to learn new skills or better understand legislation, or maybe you are a team of Surveyors seeking to complete Continuing Professional Development.

Bosence Associates is headed up by Tom Bosence, MRICS, MCIOB, Certified Historic Buildings Professional (RICS).

Tom began his working life practising traditional craft skills such as lime plaster/ pointing, traditional slating techniques, cob repair, masonry techniques (including carving and letter cutting). Having made the move to more professional and less practical roles, he worked for some of the largest conservation contractors in the country.
These roles involved running complex conservation projects and contract management.
He has since trained as a Chartered Surveyor and has worked for prestigious conservation organisations such as the National Trust and English Heritage. He is a full member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyor (MRICS), the Chartered Institute of Building (MCIOB) and the Instute for Historic Building Conservation (IHBC). He has achieved the status of Certified Historic Buildings Professional from the RICS.

This combination of achievements is very rare: very few people in the sector have the required skill, knowledge and experience to attain all of them.
